Yaaaaay! The Rains Are Back And So Am I!!!

| Yippeeeee! |
I had done my laundry out of boredom and the sun was bright as ever, but later in the evening, the rumbles started again and I really crossed my fingers for real, hoping that it rains, no matter how little. My dear brethren, it started to rain for real. I just quickly went to take in my clothes and savour the moment - the smell of moist sand, dust and...you know what I'm talking about.
The rains always come with a very very strong feeling of nostalgia. Somehow, whenever water falls from the sky and touches the ground, it's like an old album of records of events is played and put on shuffle in my head. So sit back and enjoy as I take you on this short journey through what the rains remind me of.
In no particular order, the rain reminds me so much of being such a happy young child. As a kid my mum used to take my sister and me to stay with my grandparents during the holidays, easter I think. When it rained, my grandpa would roast some yams for both of us and tell us tales about the cunning tortoise and sly fox. We usually sat on a mat in the front porch with oil running down our fingers and consequently staining our clothes which my granny was oh so willing to wash.
I remember watching the tempo of the rain rise and fall. The thunderclaps didn't scare me as it did to other kids. The lightning fascinated and me and still does and I carefully watched as drops of water filled the drums and stainless steel washbasins. I remember how granny fetched the rainwater in little cups and gave us so her grandchildren will not go and choke on roast yam and oil.

| Did I mention how much I love water? And oh! I have no "under-the-rain" photos so I think we should make do with this improvise. |
The rain reminds me of how I was now grown enough to carry washbasins and buckets and position them strategically to be filled. I used the opportunity to get drenched in the rain-it gave me the feeling that all my worries and fears and sins were being washed away too.
The rain also reminds me of love. Not your regular "Netflix cuddling God when scenarios sprinkled with a lirru bit of aggressive fornication" though, my first baby boy once kissed me under the rain...it was 5 seconds of pure magic.
I also remember how classes were cancelled in primary school because the clouds that gathered cast dark shadows in the classroom and we weren't able to see what the teacher wrote on the board or, in cases where there was light, but the rain was too heavy that we couldn't hear our teacher anymore, we were either forced to lay our heads on the desk to sleep or if it was a playful teacher, we'd sing very loudly and hit our hands hard on our desks, making very loud beats. I remember being so engrossed in the music-making...singing and smiling and laughing hard till my ribs ached... PURE JOY.
In secondary school where no teacher was ready to cut classes for you because of rain, we often lied that we had clothes spread outside - some of us did though so it wasn't completely a lie - nevertheless, anytime it rained while classes were ongoing, we'd run out of class in the name of going to take in our clothes and soon, the class would be empty. It depended on who was teaching though, you can't try that with maths teacher, Uncle Nnachi.
There's still a lot more that I can't remember, but the rainy season will forever be my favourite season of the year. No heat, no dry skin, I can wear whatever I want because I won't feel too hot or too cold. The pros for me are a lot more than the cons and I really want to say thank you Lord for the rain🙃😊.
So tell me, what is your favourite weather condition and why? Also, does the rain remind you of anything just as it does to me? Hope you had fun reading. See you at the comment section.
